I must admit I'm a bit surprized, but with your change in venue, I guess this was available. Hows southern Cal?

» Cottage_Garden - Hey, Treeman!

In response to Imagine seeing you here posted by anewleaf:

Yeah, I'm baaaaaack. Truth is stranger than fiction? lol

I hadn't really planned on it.

But I missed writing. What can I say. And I really like the immediacy of the internet over print. If I can think it up, I can publish it now. No waiting three months. (I guess I am totally Type A in some respects.)

And even more fun, at suite 101, folks can talk back!

Now THAT'S communicating.

Thanks so much for stopping by. I'm hoping a few more readers -- old and new -- will pop up and say hi now and then. Hearing from you helps keep me motivated and enthusiastic and productive... and on my toes, too!

SoCal is great. The variety of plants here is phenomenal, everything from palms and poinsettias to florists cyclamens in the ground, right next to pansies and roses and snapdragons and even snowdrops. I am in LOVE with agaves and all the cactus. Some days it blows my mind.

And, I can be at the beach in shorts and then up in the mountains with snow and winter coat -- all in one day. That's just kinda wrong, in my thinking. I guess it shakes up my sense of place.

And in the warm months it can be 15 degrees or 25 degrees hotter inland a little bit (where I live) than right on the coast. So you can go from hot dry oven inland to perfect temps in a half hour drive.

But it sure demonstrates the idea of topography and microclimates. Southern California is amazing. No wonder the Sunset people came up with all those different gardening zones. Thank goodness they did!

Honestly, in retrospect it took me a year to get over leaving my old garden in Pennsylvania. This January it was like flicking a switch, I decided to start into gardening again. I planted containers, I signed up for college level horticulture science class, I joined all kinds of plant societies. Woo Hoo!

I went to THREE count'em THREE lectures yesterday by fascinating gardeners. I even took notes. I am just loving it.

And the next month or so is cram packed with garden tours and open gardens and events and shows and lectures ..... It's like being in a candy shop and all they sell is chocolate.

So, yeah, it's pretty exciting. TONS of gardening going on here, sooooo many incredibly knowledgeable people. VERY KEWL.

And of course, there's Hollywood.

Hope all is well with you --

p.s. anewleaf, that's a good one!
