City apartment dwellers grow thriving patio or balcony gardens in this uniquely shaped building in Rotterdam with outdoor space for gardening. Urban flower garden photos.

To an architect, the apartment building in these photos may resemble a cactus. To a plant person, not so much. But these photos are still interesting to a plant person -- the value is seeing the balconies where generous plantings thrive in an urban environment. Look at the wide variety of plants and flowers they are growing, each planting is different from all the others although the spaces are virtually identical. And, the balcony arrangement has opened the apartments to extra light while making each individual patio/balcony of a more useable dimension. Inspiring and very cool.

But here's the kicker: the plants in the photos are fake! DID YOU NOTICE? Look closely and you will see the close-up photos show a model of the building where the model maker has carefully used a lovely assortment of "foliage and flowers" to simulate plantings.

If you have photos of this building in real life, with real live plants on it, I would love to see them! It's still a great idea. LOL
