Many gardeners enjoy the birds in our yards and gardens, appreciating the bird activity, singing and chattering not just during the gardening months but all year long. If you set out a bird feeder to feed the birds during the cold winter months, you might want to participate in Cornell Lab of Ornithology's Project Feeder Watch, the annual survey of birds that visit bird feeders. In addition to the counting, they offer lots of information about bird feeding and bird watching to help you get the most enjoyment out of your bird feeding efforts. The new bird counting season starts in November and registration is already open now. You can be pretty flexible about your time commitment, and it is really interesting to do -- not only your own results but the accumulated results from all the counters in the group effort. It takes a few weeks to receive your materials after you sign up, so sign up now to make sure you have everything you need in time. Visit the web site for more details and to register for the 2007 to 2008 season.
