The National Arbor Day Foundation recently published an updated version of the winter hardiness zone map using data from 5000 National Climatic Data Center cooperative stations across the country. They offer several ways to look at the new zones -- including a straight map, a page comparing the old and new versions side by side, and a mesmerizing animated version illustrating the warming trend from 1990 to 2006. High resolution maps are also available for downloading. Take a look for yourself, it is shocking to see.
(Note that this is NOT the same as the USDA Winter Hardiness Zone Map. That map is also being revised, but the new version has not been published yet.)
