Stay with me here. As if some people don't have enough winter already, now I've seen everything. An inflatable iceberg for your pool. From the Everything Oilily blog of all places, an inflatable iceberg for your pool. It's really BIG! See The Last Word in Pool Toys for docu-photo. So now you can rest assured. There is a cure if global warming melts all the icebergs, just bring one in.
But what bothers me most is I am not sure quite what the foam worms mentioned in the post would be? I hope that means those extruded foam spaghetti floats and not some kind of spooky new mutated amphibian garden worm to go along with the poor glow in the dark three legged frogs out there.
I was thinking about mutated frogs and environmentally sensitive critters because I had just seen a PANNA (Pesticide Action Network North America) piece noting some additional follow up research showing the common herbicide atrazine and other chemicals affect frogs. To me, the truly frightening aspect as described in the PANNA February 28 2007 update:
"It's not the pesticides alone or introduced predators or ultraviolet light or global warming that's causing this decline, but the interaction between these on an animal that is pretty sensitive to its environment," according to Tyrone Hayes, lead researcher, professor of integrative biology at U.C. Berkeley, and a Pesticide Action Network associate.
So it's not just the warming or just the pollution or just this or just that, is more complicated than that and how are we going to fix it? Read the whole thing.
