Do you like chrysanthemums? Mums are popular seasonal flowers sold in bloom in the fall. Many people use them as decorative accessories. You can decorate with mums and then discard them once the flowers fade. Or, you can plant them and hope they will perennialize to come back next spring.
If you are a true mum aficionado, you'll know about the different classifications of mums. If you are just a mum fan, you may have noticed some of the flowers look "different" from others.
There are in fact 13 different classes of mums meaning different types of chrysanthemum flower. These are distinguished by the overall size of the bloom, the shape of it, the shape of the individual petals, and how the petals are arranged on the flower. The classes have fun names like pompon, quill, spoon, spider, incurve, reflex, and so on.
The National Chrysanthemum Society web site explains the different classes along with a color photo of an example of each and a detailed description of the criteria for each class.
I am having trouble picking a favorite -- I like them all! How about you?
Here are the color photos of mum classes.
