When is Your Last Expected Spring Frost?

Gardeners need to know the average spring frost date for their local area. Learn how to check your last expected spring frost date so you can plan for spring planting.

Spring frost is the bane of a gardener's existence. Plant out your baby transplants too early, and they get killed off by frost. Or how about the guide to "plant after the last spring frost" -- what the heck is that supposed to mean, wait until June? Or how about the "start indoors eight to ten weeks before last expected frost" drill. How is a gardener to know?

If you keep a garden journal every year for quite a few years then you will see roughly when your last spring frost date is. Or maybe a gardening neighbor will know. Or maybe your local county extension can tell you the average frost dates for your area. But lacking all that, you can use official data from NOAA.

Get your frost dates here.

And remember, an average is just that. Some years run early, some years run late.
