Amaryllis bulbs are easy to grow, but bad things can happen to good amaryllis. Do you know what to do? Do right by your amaryllis with these planting tips.

Growing an amaryllis (hippeastrum) bulb should be foolproof, fun and easy with no green thumb required. And the results are just glorious when everything goes right: jaw dropping big bold beautiful flowers that make you say WOW.

The overall idea is you plant the bare bulb in a pot and then presto you get amazing huge flowers on bare stems that can be two feet tall. Sometimes, though, it doesn't work quite as expected. Why not?

Potential pitfalls and problems with amaryllis include picking a bad bulb (eg mushy, shriveled, moldy, already sprouted) and planting it wrong (too deeply) or watering it too much or too little (barely damp at first, not sopping wet and not dried out), or putting it in the wrong place (too cold, too hot).

Don't let that happen to you (or if it already has ...) Find out all about amaryllis growing. Check out my articles for tips on planting your amaryllis, how to care for it so you can keep it to bloom again next year, and then some more tips and tricks on growing amaryllis for those of us who really get hooked.

ENJOY YOUR AMARYLLIS -- THIS IS A GREAT PLANT!
